Photography enthusiasts not only, in General, achieve catches of sight: they want to go further and treat themselves their images. By software offering in the market, computer and photography are no longer an incongruous duo, but rather a partnership.
Taking into account the evolution of the digital photo, dedicated software are only retouching, they also have functions of management and dissemination, presented as integrated modules or packages. These software can be divided into two categories. First of all, there are those who are managers with additional tools for editing, such as ACDSee Pro 2 or Magix Photo Maker 2008. The management is to catalogue these photos on the computer or external devices. This classification is critical to easily find photos, taking into account the amount generated by the ease of use of the digital.

Photoshop and others
Other software should favour, on the contrary, retouching and provide some management functions. The photographer can thus improve, correct, rigging, paste, from a more or less extended toolkit. In General, how to use is fairly standardized, even though each software has its peculiarities. It is the number of functions and their performance that makes the difference. The most emblematic of these software, the more elaborate also remains Photoshop, supplemented by Bridge Management, published by Adobe. It is popular and professional photographers informed fans, despite a high price, approximately 1,000 euros for the next classic CS4 version (exit planned during the month of December).
If Photoshop is not accessible due to its complexity and its price, there are consumer products, with the purchase price, much more affordable, ranging from about 50 to 100 euros. This range includes, among the best known and most used, Corel Paint Shop Pro X 2, ACDSee 10 Power Pack or the very famous Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, public but nevertheless effective Photoshop CS version.
Free software
Free, downloadable software on the Internet, also have the wind in its sails. Even if they do not always have the same performance as the pay software, they can be interesting to get an idea of the treatment of the image at a lower cost. The best-known include Picasa, dedicated to the management, Gimp or Photo filter for retouching, or even Adobe Photoshop Express, version lean elements, but in English (for now). Software supplied with the cameras, they are generally well-designed and appropriate formats for registration of images trademarks. They are a good basis for discovery of the treatment of the image, as Canon Digital Photo Professional or Nikon transfer and View NX.
There is an another range of photographic processing very specialized software. Considered real virtual labs, they include management, development, publication and the export of the photos. The purchase price range extends from 150 to 300 euros approximately. Even if they are suited to JPEG or TIFF formats, they take their full extent with the RAW format (files raw images, comparable to the "negative" for the film). Some are universal and supports most of the manufacturers RAW files: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, DxO Optics Pro 5, Apple Aperture 2 (only on Mac), etc. Nikon has created its own treatment of images, Capture NX2 software, which supports, in addition to JPEG and TIFF, NEF (Nikon RAW) format only.
